Tormach releases new desktop product for CNC Machining

On floor of the World Maker Faire in New York, Tormach announced a smaller, more user-friendly CNC mill, the PCNC 440. Their new mill is a true CNC mill unlike others in the desktop CNC category, meaning that, similar to the larger machines used by IP Automation it is capable of a wider range of motion than most router-based options.

CNC has become widely popular with the Maker community, a community of home manufacturing enthusiasts, and this desktop model is an attempt to lower the barrier to entry for those who would like to try their hand at home projects. While 3D printing has become popular with home enthusiasts, CNC (Computer Numerical Control) offers more precision and   flexibility of materials, wood, aluminum, steel, plastic and even titanium are no problem, making them useful for a wide range of projects.

While the smaller size does limit the output of the PCNC 440 compared to the larger professional machines, it uses an R8 spindle with speeds of up to 10,000 RPM and quick-change tooling, making it more approachable to the home user. Most industrial CNC machining is done using CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) and the PCNC 440 is no different. This compatibility makes prototyping easier.

Newer desktop CNC machines such as the PCNC 440 are introducing more and more people to the benefits of CNC Machining. The ability to create precise designs from steel and titanium is useful for everyone and IP Automation offers a wide range of CNC services for home or business applications. The possibilities are endless.

SOCOM will display Colorado’s manufacturers and engineers.

It’s time to show both young entrepreneurs and established companies that Colorado has the manufacturers and great engineers to deliver top–quality services.

In the words of IP Automation’s Ken Krassy, featured in the Colorado Springs Business Journal,

Growing businesses need people. And if the Colorado Springs manufacturing sector is going to grow, it needs to seize opportunities for new business and create the kind of environment that attracts professionals from diverse backgrounds.

As a mainstay in US engineering, IP Automation strongly supports this unique business development opportunity for the Colorado Springs region.

The Art of Laser Cutting

Artists’ custom laser cutting creates stunning visuals.

If you think laser cutting is strictly for sheet metal and manufacturing, think again. Though originally used for engineering design, laser cutters are now making their mark in the arts.

Artists are discovering the wonders of exceptionally precise laser cutting. Laser systems can cut through virtually any material- wood, metal, glass and more. They’re also perfect for custom wood engraving or glass etching.

Artist Gabriel Schama utilizes laser cutting for making custom wood cuts to create captivatingly intricate wood relief sculptures. Schama’s laser cutter- which even has a nickname, Elsie- cuts each 1/8 inch piece of plywood, which Schama then stacks to make dazzling designs.

The custom laser cut wood, once stacked, gives a mandala–like illusion. To create contrast, Schama sometimes covers the mandala with a wooden cutout of a human silhouette.

Featured on Visual News, the results of such creative custom laser cutting are striking. Unsurprisingly, Schama’s wood cutting design shop is sold out until November.

IP Automation’s laser cutting services include custom metal and wood cuts.

Custom wood cutting for artwork such as Schama’s is just one of many applications for laser cutters. IP Automation provides laser cutting services for residential, commercial and industrial use. Our laser cutter is ideal for a number of projects ranging from custom engraving to precision metal cutting.

Contact IP Automation to see how our laser cutting services can realize your project in the arts, the home or in manufacturing.
